In the Slums
  In the Slums

Another project of African Hearts Community Organization is the ministry in the Kisenyi Slums in Kampala. Some orphaned and vulnerable youth find themselves in the slums by choice, but most are victims of HIV, poverty, abuse and some are refugees from war-torn northern Uganda.

African Hearts leaders visit the slums regularly three to five times each week to minister to the street children by treating wounds, teaching literacy classes, feeding them, and teaching the Bible. Even the Royalle Band visits the slums at Christmas time to host a party with band music and a soccer game for the slum kids. However, this outreach is really a 24/7 ministry because leaders are always "on call" to help when there are police round ups as African Hearts speaks up and defends these boys. Leaders may be called in the middle of the night when there are medical emergencies, deaths and heavy rains so that the boys have no shelter or place to sleep.

African Hearts reaches out to these street boys with the love of Christ and seeks to meet their physical needs and give them hope for a future.
